Macrobiotic Diet - Why it is so Beneficial?

A macrobiotic diet also known as macrobiotics from "macro" (meaning big) and "bios" ( meaning life), a dietary regimen which involves eating grains as a staple food supplemented with other food stuffs such as local vegetables avoiding the avail of highly processed or refined foods and most animal products.

The word macrobiotics is used to express people who were in good condition and lived long, actually the word itself comes from the Greek for excellent life, macros equaling great and bios equaling life. Disciples of macrobiotics protect the impression that food quality severely affects health, well-being and happiness. They stress locally grown entire grain cereals, pulses, vegetables, seaweed, fermented soybeans and fruit. These foods are mixed into meals according to the principle of ying and yang, meaning balance. Yin foods are cold, sweet and passive while yang foods are hot, salty and aggressive. It is very important to keep in mind that a macrobiotic diet varies greatly, depending on geographical and life case: Well chewed whole cereal grains, especially brown rice: 40-60%, Vegetables: 25-30%, Beans and legumes: 5-10%, Miso soup: 5%, Sea vegetables: 5%, traditionally or naturally processed foods: 5-10%. You may enjoy seed and nut butters, fruits, fish and seafood, seeds and nuts, seasonings, sweeteners and beverages occasionally, 2-3 times per week. Other naturally raised animal products may be only included if necessary during dietary transition or according to individual needs.

When you are having a macrobiotic diet, you are absolutely prohibited to have foods that you are most possibly to enjoy like processed foods. Also, always shy refined foods such as white flour or sugar, animal products including dairy products, cheese, meat, or poultry, chocolate, soda, caffeinated products and tropical fruits.
