A Juice Diet For Detox

By Alison Heath

Because we eat processed foods and breathe in polluted air, our body accumulates toxins. Our body does its part to eliminate the toxins, but it tends to become stressed because of the overload. Some symptoms like chronic headaches, skin allergies, and premature aging will show.

So what can we do? Try juice fasting, as a safe way to detox! There has already been many studies on the good that juice fasting can do for the body. It has the ability to increase our lifespan, reduce cholesterol levels, treat biochemical imbalances, treat allergies, cure acne, etc.

Juice fasting enables your body to rest from food and digestion, giving the immune system a chance to focus on the elimination of toxins with the help of our excretory organs. During a prolonged fast (3 plus days), the body will start to burn off and digest its own tissues by process of autolysis in a discriminate manner. First, it will burn diseased, damaged, aged, or dead tissues. The stomach shrinks and becomes less acidic. Then, certain detox symptoms are experienced eg. acne breakouts, fatigue, headaches, as the body eliminates its toxins. These symptoms should ease and we will feel a renewed sense of health and well-being!

You can make juice from almost any fruit or vegetable that you can eat raw. Tomatoes, cucumbers, celery, and carrots are good vegetables for juicing.

Juice made from a combination of fruits and veggies will also be delicious. Apple and carrot juice is a good example. Another nice combination is apple, celery and tomato.

For vegetable and fruit skins, peel them off especially if you suspect that they have been sprayed. Using organic fruits and vegetables is even better. Use filtered or distilled water to rinse.

How to Juice for Juice Fasting? It is recommended to dilute your juice 50/50 with water, especially if you are using fruits and the juice is too sweet. It's best to use distilled water for this.

Also, remember that you can't buy freshly prepared juice from a supermarket or any juice that comes from a packet, despite what the label on the packet says. Know that juice in a can, carton, or bottle has been heat-treated.

Juice has to be prepared fresh! As juice stays out, the raw food enzymes will also be less fresh. This means you must have a juicer or find a store that prepares juice right.
